In the UK there are two major problems with the business of dentistry.
- All individual dentists pay £1,000s for protection against litigation.
- The perception that all treatment should be available on the NHS.
There is a referral pathway for NHS root fillings, but the reality is there is no funding. The same applies for prevention. Our governments publication on Prevention is Better than Cure states the following.
The only funding allocated to prevention in oral health only applies to those under six. You will have to pay.
Unfortunately, treatment is often required, and the same principles for prevention will help guarantee the procedure's success. The teeth4life App if free, and you can monitor you and your family in the MY Teeth section. It does not replace seeing the dentist but help reduce the frequency. In my experience, those seen on a regular prevention plan had less treatment, and the treatment lasted longer. So please complete the survey, and add any observations to help improve the App and your care.
