Prevention through ehealth App
There are a wide variety of Apps available for health. With most of the general population using their phones 24/7 in an increasingly interactive way, an idea was hatched/born to increase awareness of dental health's importance. The creation of this App was to use gamification to encourage the users to improve their scores to increase their dental health – whether you regularly visit the dentist or not. These animations explain how and why the user keeps their mouth clean and encourages and promotes good habits by setting timely reminders.
COVID and Oral health
This is a recent article linking Covid to Oral Health. It follows an earlier paper from Quatar Claude Hopkins did more for dental health prevention than any dentist. He was in advertising in the 30's, and he described the Habit Loop. He advertised removing "film" from teeth
The fresh ring of confidence had no fluoride. Then, as now, the brush does all the work. He was selling toothpaste, not brushes. |
Perhaps now as we were masks, and keep our distance, the public is more aware of prevention.
We know Oral hygiene is directly linked to general health.
This animations below are in the App to try and engage the public in a different way

In 1982, we didn't have smartphones. We handed out OHI instruction leaflets. Then as now, we know that our OHI is not fully embraced in the surgery. By customising your App, they can follow your advice on their phone in their bathroom. In ten years, their mirror may tell them they haven't used their interdental brushes in months. Until then advise them on setting timely reminders on the App. The slideshow has a few screenshots from the App. Even better download the teeth4life App now.

My lightbulb moment was after sending a periocourses YouTube video to an elderly patient.
The advantage of an App is it allows the user to personalise it and is a go to resource for oral hygiene advice.
