This is the link to our last LDC conference. If you look in the bottom left corner you can see how many views it has so far. I haven't had time to look through all of them. I presented a motion in 2005 as I was concerned that FDs might be vulnerable under the new contract and not get employed. I was wrong; they were, it's just their income reduced. At my first LDC conference about 30 years ago I met the president of the GDC and was told while it was good to have a conference, nothing of value came from it. The major decisions were from the GDC.

Around 2016 I updated our LDC website. I intended to make one from scratch, but the idea was to have it curated by experts in their fields on a national level, with a section for local issues. It doesn't need fancy graphics or optimum SEO, but it does need to be accurate. I had good support from Vigay Sudra in Birmingham, but sadly some other LDCs didn't want "their efforts" copied. We all need to consolidate our efforts to be effective. I copied the Birminghams site. It was ideal. Instead, I made a website for carers as they get little training. Please use care4teeth.org. We had about 20% of email contacts of the profession in the area.
The area team didn't have the email contact details of dentists in the area?? This was part of the reply from the GDC

Dear Mr Smith,
Thank you for your enquiry on 21 October 2016 in which you sought email addresses of dentists from Avon. Your request has been considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the FOI Act). I can confirm that the General Dental Council (GDC) holds the information you have requested. However, we are withholding it as we consider the exemption under section 40(2) of the FOI Act applies. |
I think the LDC received the email contacts around April 2022 due to Covid and to circulate the SOP.
If only we had a national LDC website that we all accessed.

We have an opportunity to influence change if we are a united group. All LDCs should be trying to get their dentists contact details so when a decision is made there can be some unified consensus. Just think if we had a site that dentist could access, we could make up a survey and GDPs vote on acceptable "dentally fit', rather than with career expert witnesses the GDC has advertised for, and the lawyers who feed off them. Just think of the money we'd save if we used free technology!

Please contact your LDC and give your email details, and check that all your work colleagues also do the same.
